How Solar Works: Step-by-Step UK Guide
A clear, no-pressure process that explains how solar works from quotation to commissioning, tailored to your home and designed to be easy to follow.
How Solar Works: Quotation to Commissioning
We have refined our solar installation process over the years to keep every stage clear, efficient, and customer-friendly. Here is the milestone path from your first enquiry to a live system.
- 1
Remote Solar Survey Online
Share your address and property details so the design team can size a system using roof direction, pitch, available space, and local daylight levels.
- 2
Receive Your Initial Solar Quote
A tailored, no-obligation quote is emailed to you. If we need to confirm the exact location, we will call before sending it.
- 3
On-Site Solar Panel Survey
A free visit confirms panel layout, cable routes, inverter and battery positions, and any scaffolding needs so installation runs smoothly.
- 4
Final Quote, Adjustments, and Approval
We update the quote if panel counts or battery sizing changes. Once approved, the scheduling team books scaffolding and installation dates.
- 5
Scaffolding and Installation
Scaffolding goes up two days before and down two days after. A 3-4 person team completes the install safely and professionally.
- 6
Commissioning and Paperwork
We set up your monitoring app, then issue your electrical certificate, MCS certificate, product warranties, and insurance-backed workmanship cover.
No Deposits. Pay Only After Commissioning.
We do not take deposits. Payment is only requested once your system is installed and you can see it working live in your app. We prefer bank transfer and also accept all major debit and credit cards. If a G99 application is required with your local DNO, we handle it for free.

How Solar Works Inside Your Home
Solar panels, inverters, and monitoring work together so you use clean power first and keep track of every kWh generated.
Solar Panels Capture Sunlight
PV cells convert daylight into DC electricity, even on cloudy UK days, creating the power your home will use first.
Inverter Turns DC Into AC Power
A high-efficiency inverter changes DC into usable AC electricity that runs appliances, lighting, and heating controls.
Smart Meter Tracks Generation
Generation and export are recorded so you can see how solar works hour by hour and understand your savings.
Battery or Grid Balances Demand
Any surplus energy is stored in a battery or exported to the grid, while the grid supports you at night.
How Solar Works on Cloudy Days
Panels generate power from daylight, not just direct sun. That is why UK systems continue producing through typical weather patterns.
How Solar Works With Batteries
Battery storage saves excess daytime generation for evening use, increasing self-consumption and lowering grid reliance.
How Solar Works With Export
When production exceeds demand, surplus energy is exported to the grid so nothing is wasted and you benefit from smart export tariffs.
